Blood of Shadows Chapter 1

Prologue: The Curse of Eternal Night

The air crackled with raw energy as the moon hung heavy and crimson in the sky, its glow bathing the ancient stone courtyard in an eerie, unearthly light. The world seemed to hold its breath, watching as the fate of two doomed lovers unraveled under its gaze.

Kain Drakhar stood motionless, his dark, regal cloak billowing in the wind, his eyes—once fierce and commanding—softened by despair. Before him, Alaria knelt on the cold ground, her hands trembling as they reached for him. Her tear-streaked face glistened like porcelain under the moonlight, each tear a testament to their impossible love.

“Don’t let them take you,” she whispered, her voice cracking as her memories began to fragment. “I don’t want to forget you, Kain. I can’t.”

Kain’s heart ached with a pain deeper than any wound he’d endured in centuries. He clenched his fists, powerless to fight the forces that had been unleashed. Around them, a circle of robed elders chanted in an ancient tongue, their voices weaving a curse that would echo through eternity.

“I swore I would protect you, Alaria,” Kain said, his voice low and guttural, thick with emotion. “Even now, I would trade my immortal soul for just one moment more with you.”

The wind howled, carrying Alaria’s sobs into the night. Her hands clawed at her temples as the memories of their time together began to slip away, stolen by the curse. She gasped, clutching at fleeting fragments—a stolen kiss in the woods, his laughter under a moonlit sky, the warmth of his arms as he whispered her name.

“Kain!” she screamed, her voice raw with desperation. “Please… don’t leave me…”

But it was too late. The curse had taken hold.

The ground beneath Kain trembled as jagged shadows rose from the earth, coiling around his feet like serpents. They dragged him down, inch by inch, into an abyss of eternal imprisonment. His glowing crimson eyes locked onto hers one final time, and a single tear slid down his cheek—a tear for the love he could never protect.

“You may forget me,” Kain whispered, his voice haunting and melodic, “but I will remember you in every lifetime. I will find you, Alaria. I swear it.”

Alaria’s screams echoed into the void as the last trace of Kain disappeared, swallowed by the shadows. The chanting ceased, and an unearthly silence settled over the courtyard. The elders turned and faded into the night, their task complete.

Alaria collapsed, her mind now a blank canvas, her memories erased like sand swept away by the tide. Only the faintest shadow of grief lingered in her heart, a ghostly ache she could not name.

Above, the blood-red moon glowed brighter, a cruel witness to the curse that would repeat with every turn of the century: a love found, only to be torn apart again.

The night swallowed them both, leaving behind only the whispers of a love destined to endure, cursed to remain unfulfilled.
