Lagos Wins 9th National Youth Games
Team Lagos has been declared winner of the 9th edition of the National Youth Games (NYG) hosted in Asaba, Delta state.
Lagos which overtake perennial winners and host Team Delta in the 2025 edition of the games held for the third time at the magnificent Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, garnered 52 gold, 32 silver and 26 bronze totaling 110 medals to clinched first position.
However, drama played out in the final day, when Team Delta leapfrogged Team Edo, who has been in second position for days to clinch second position.
Team Delta’s feat was as a result of it’s athletes performance in the last day events where the claimed more two gold medals and bronze to jumped up to second position.

Delta Team garnered 37 gold, 38 silver and 39 bronze, totaling 114 medals at the final day of the games to picked second position.
Team Edo were placed in the third position with 33 gold, 18 silver and 28 bronze, totalling 79 medals to picked top three position.
Team Delta had won all the previous 8 editions of the National Youth Games, which debuted in 2013 in Abuja.
Kwara State hosted five editions in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2021, while Delta State were awarded four hosting rights in an MoU with the scraped Federal Ministry of Sports Development in 2022 in Asaba.
Delta State has hosted three consecutive times in 2023, 2024 and 2025. The national youth games started as an under 17 tournament, but was brought down to under 15.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the games, Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Elder Sheriff Oborevbore, expressed happiness over the successful hosting of the 9th edition of the games, saying it has helped developed talents that will represent Nigeria in international tournaments in future.
Also speaking, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, who was represented by Mrs Amaka Ashovu, said the 9th edition of the games has been an incredible experience marked by fierced competition, determination, exciting adventures and exceptional sportsmanship.
He said the games has provided lots of opportunities to identify new young talents that will be nurtured and groomed to replace the aging national athletes.
